NESA wins prestigious national green energy award

The North East Skills Accelerator (NESA) has been honoured with the coveted Judges Award at the Scottish Renewables Green Energy Supply Chain Awards, held last night in Aberdeen.

The award recognises NESA’s outstanding contribution to Scotland’s renewable energy sector through its pioneering approach to workforce development and collaboration.

A partnership between the University of Aberdeen, North East Scotland College (NESCol), and Robert Gordon University supported by Energy Transition Zone Ltd and Skills Development Scotland, NESA plays a vital role in preparing the region’s workforce for the energy transition.

Its mission is to accelerate upskilling, reskilling and training for both current energy professionals and new entrants, ensuring the north-east remains at the forefront of the shift to net zero.

Over the past year alone, NESA has delivered training to more than 700 individuals across 37 courses - nearly half of which were newly developed to meet the evolving needs of the energy sector.

Professor John Underhill, Chair of NESA and Director of Energy Transition at the University, expressed his pride in the achievement: “Winning the Judges Award is a powerful endorsement of the collaborative spirit that drives NESA and demonstrates the whole is greater than the sum of the parts. It reflects the energy, innovation and commitment of our partners and the wider community.

“This recognition reinforces our belief in the importance of equipping people with the skills needed for a just and sustainable energy transition. We’re excited to build on this momentum and continue shaping a resilient, future-ready workforce for the north-east.”

The Scottish Renewables Green Energy Supply Chain Awards celebrate the ingenuity and leadership of organisations across Scotland’s renewable energy landscape. NESA’s win highlights the critical role of education and skills development in building a cleaner, stronger energy future.
