Double success for HSRU MSc students

We were delighted to hear that the joint winners of this year's Elizabeth Russell Prize for Research were both based in HSRU.

Karen Innes, who completed her MSc in Public Health Research on a part-time basis, while working as a Trial Manager within the Unit, conducted a mixed methods study to investigate the importance of different informational items in a Participant Information Leaflet. Karen’s project was supervised by Seonaidh Cotton, Marion Campbell and Katie Gillies.

Kathryn Machray, who was a full-time student on the same course, used qualitative methods to explore health professionals’ experiences and perspectives on food poverty and long-term conditions. Kathryn’s project was supervised by Flora Douglas (Rowett Institute) and Vikki Entwistle.

Congratulations to both students.

The supervision of Master’s level projects at the University of Aberdeen is just one of the ways in which HSRU staff contribute to the development of research capacity for Scotland and beyond. We were particularly pleased to hear of our students’ success in this context because Elizabeth Russell, after whom the prize is named, was a key contributor to the establishment of HSRU and continues to be a valued supporter.
