Inspiring the next generation at Offshore Europe

Equipping the next generation of oil and gas professionals with the expertise and knowledge to drive the industry forward will form a key part of the University of Aberdeen's activity at this year's Offshore Europe.

The University will demonstrate its commitment to responding to the needs of the sector by unveiling three new Masters programmes in energy-related disciplines, while also showcasing its research expertise.

Key figures from the University’s Aberdeen Institute of Energy will support SPE student summit sessions, and there will also be a focus on the University’s international energy-related activities.

This will include the establishment of the University’s first overseas campus in Korea, a partnership with key Korean industrial and governmental institutions that will provide courses in offshore-related disciplines as well as unique new offshore engineering research facilities.

John Scrimgeour, Executive Director of the Aberdeen Institute of Energy, said: “The University of Aberdeen is at the forefront of energy-related teaching and research, and we are looking forward to showcasing our expertise at this year’s Offshore Europe.

“This year’s conference is all about inspiring the next generation, and we consider this to be at the heart of what we do as a University, both in terms of teaching and of research.

“The University has close links with the oil and gas sector through the various industry advisory boards that provide guidance on our taught programmes, and we are focused on developing courses that will equip the next generation of industry professionals with the skills they need to make an impact.

“This week we will launch three new Masters programmes aimed at driving innovation and safety in the sector, and we will also focus on research currently underway here at the University.

“In addition, we will showcase our plans for the University’s first international campus in Korea, which will offer exciting opportunities in offshore-related research and open up educational and business links to a new market in East Asia.

“I would encourage anyone who has an interest in any of our activities to come along and visit us on stand 2C20.”
