University of Aberdeen launches first MOOC

The University of Aberdeen formally launched its first massive online open access courses on Monday 22 June.

The interdisciplinary course ’Africa: Sustainable Development for all?’ has attracted about 5,000 learners from over 100 countries with an age range of 60 years.

The course was developed by staff from the Centre for Sustainable International Development and a range of disciplines are represented (education, environmental sciences, health sciences, history, language and linguistics, law, nutrition, philosophy, rice genetics, social sciences).  Considerable support has been provided from staff in the Centre for Academic Development and the Audio Visual Unit.

The feedback from learners at the end of the first week has been incredibly positive with learners enjoying the interactive student-directed learning approach adopted.  If you are interested in registering for the course you can do so by clicking here. Further information can be provided by Hilary Homans hilary.homans@abdn.ac.uk.

The course will run again in September 2015 and January 2016 when it will also be embedded in 6th Century courses of the same name.
