European Student Energy Summit announces Nexen as sponsor

The first European Student Energy Summit, organised by students from the University of Aberdeen, has announced Nexen Petroleum UK Ltd has joined its team of sponsors and is now a founding partner in the organisation of the summit.

The event in Aberdeen will be held simultaneously with events on four other continents, with sister summits in New York, Shanghai, Cape Town and Mexico City on 19-20 June, 2014.

The occasion will be an opportunity for ‘the next generation’ of energy sector workers to debate important issues with experts, industry leaders and policy makers.

Nexen Petroleum UK Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of CNOOC, is one of the largest operators in the UK North Sea, responsibly developing oil and gas resources to meet consumer and business demand for energy.

Nexen operates the highest-producing field in the UKCS, Buzzard, which later this year will start producing oil from the Golden Eagle development, one of the largest discoveries in the North Sea in the past decade.

Archie Kennedy, Managing Director of Nexen Petroleum UK Ltd, said: “Students from a wide range of disciplines are the talent who can drive our industry forward and help us tackle the issues we face now and in the future. As a forum for generating discussion and sharing ideas, this summit is the ideal way to harness that talent, and we’re pleased to be able to provide the support to help make it happen. We will, of course, be following the discussions at the summit closely.”

Event Chair Malgorzata Olesiewicz, a 4th year Economics student at the University said: “We are delighted to welcome Nexen Petroleum UK Ltd on board as one of our sponsors.

“We have been delighted by the support and enthusiasm from all our industrial supporters.

“It’s hoped this event will be the beginning of an important dialogue between students and the industry. Tickets are selling fast for the event, but some are still available, so we encourage people to register soon.”

Nexen was the main sponsor of the International Student Energy Summit’s inaugural event in Calgary in 2009 and an associate partner sponsor of the summit held in Vancouver in 2011.
