Dr Julia Hussein has just returned from a visit to Nigeria (20-25 January 2014) where she made progress in identifying sites in Lagos state where the process of conducting maternal death audit will be studied as part of the MacArthur funded audit and accountability project.
During the visit, she also took the opportunity to visit the University of Benin in Benin City, Nigeria. The University of Benin has recently secured a large grant from the World Bank to develop a Centre for Excellence in Reproductive Health Research and Innovation.
This five year grant will include collaboration with the University of Aberdeen. While she was there, Julia met a delegation from the Vice-Chancellor's office, who warmly welcomed her to the University.
She took part in a discussion involving over 20 people representing their departments including the Faculties of Law, Mental Health, Community Health, Psychology, Sociology, Child Health, Nursing, Obstetrics and Gynaecology Medical Biochemistry and Medical Laboratory Science.
