International symposium keynote paper at the Institute of Education, University of London

Dr Joan Forbes, Reader in Education at the University of Aberdeen, with Professor Gaby Weiner, University of Sussex, will give a paper at an international invitation symposium on elite education to be held at the Institute of Education, University of London on 7-8 November 2013.

The symposium focus is: Private and elite education: international perspectives; and the title of Forbes and Weiner’s paper is: The State of ‘Independence’: Private and Elite Education in Scotland.The event is funded by the UK Economic and Social Research Council and organised by Dr Claire Maxwell, Institute of Education, University of London, UK and Professor Peter Aggleton, the University of New South Wales, Australia.

Joan Forbes and Gaby Weiner’s paper is one of a series of outputs from the Scottish Funding Council supported Applied Educational Research Scheme, Schools and Social Capital Network, Scottish Independent Schools Project (SISP). The SISP studies investigate educational and social in/exclusions and seek to develop and apply innovative research methodologies.
