Junk/Spam E-mail this morning 04 Aug 09
What is happening?
A number of users have reported that they have received several Junk/Spam E-mail messages in their E-mail Inbox this morning. It appears that our Anti-Spam Message filter has failed to catch these messages and our analysts are currently looking into the problem, to ascertain how these messages managed to circumvent our protection systems.
What should you do?
As always, do NOT open any messages from any unknown sources. or Spam E-Mail can contain malicious code that can launch a virus or take you to a web-page that contains malicious code. If you are unsure how to identify whether the e-mail is from a genuine Aberdeen University account, generally the e-mail address will appear in the format of LASTNAME, FIRSTNAME. The important point to note is the COMMA that separates the LASTNAME from the FIRSTNAME. If there is no COMMA, then it is most likely an external e-mail address and should be treated as suspicious.
If you have received any suspicious e-mails, you should either delete the e-mail or add the e-mail to your personal Junk E-mail filter, by right-clicking on the message and then selecting Junk E-mail, Add Sender to Blocked Senders List. This will then send the e-mail to your Junk E-mail folder and all future e-mail from the Sender. You can then delete the contents of your Junk E-mail folder at a later time.
