The University of Aberdeen will welcome school pupils from across the region on Friday 6 November for a Languages Taster Day, offering a hands-on introduction to language learning and life on campus.
The inaugural event is designed for pupils studying National 5, Higher or Advanced Higher languages, as well as those considering starting a new language at university to enhance their degree and future employability.
Around 100 pupils from schools around the City and Shire will meet staff and students, explore the campus, and take part in a series of interactive sessions showcasing the breadth of language study at Aberdeen.
The University offers courses in Gaelic, German, French, Spanish, Arabic or Mandarin, with flexible four‑ or five‑year degree options and a wide range of subject combinations. Students can choose to specialise in areas such as translation and interpreting, or explore the cultures, societies and politics of the languages they study.
Small‑group teaching with native speakers and strong student support are central to the University’s approach, helping learners become confident communicators and global citizens.
Professor Trevor Stack, Professor of Spanish and Latin American Studies, from the School of Language, Literature, Music and Visual Culture said: “Language learning opens doors to new cultures, new opportunities and new ways of seeing the world. Our Languages Taster Day gives pupils a chance to experience that first‑hand and to discover the many pathways available at Aberdeen.”
