We are pleased to announce that the University of Aberdeen will host an Erasmus+ Jean Monnet Chair in Fair Digital Transition for the years 2026/2029.
The Chair, coordinated by Rossana Ducato, will offer a wide range of interdisciplinary courses to explore the challenges of ensuring “Just transition” in the digital domain and the role of law in governing such a transition.
This semester we will kick off with the course “Comparative Law of the Digital Economy”.
Rossana Ducato and Claudio Lombardi will engage with students in the nitty-gritty legal aspects of the platform economy. Not operative as merely passive carriers, most of the business models that dominate today’s digital economy create new markets and reshape Internet governance mechanisms. Through the course, we will critically examine the different narratives of the platform economy, debunking common myths and addressing key legal concerns, notably how platforms can influence consumer behaviours, include or exclude competitors, curate and select the content that one can access online.
