IAHS Postgraduate Education Research Group (PERG) member Dr Heather May Morgan will take up the role of Vice-Principal Regional Engagement and Innovation from 1 April 2026.
Heather has been at the University since 2001, when she joined as an undergraduate student. She is a triple graduate and has held multiple roles, studying, teaching, or examining in seven of our twelve schools over the years. Heather is a multidisciplinary social scientist who has expertise in digital health, qualitative and mixed methods research. She has led and expanded our programme of PGT work-based learning in SMMSN since 2017, regularly works with industry partners, has co-created software and hardware, and co-founded an FGM Education charity. She is a four times public engagement with research prize winner and was recognised externally in 2022 for kindness in leadership. More recently she has been Dean for Enterprise and Innovation and, since 2023, has led the transformation of staff policies and student education in this role, working towards creating a more entrepreneurial campus.
She said: “I am excited to be appointed to the post of Vice-Principal Regional Engagement & Innovation to drive forward all aspects of institutional strategy and policy in relation to the University’s enterprise, innovation and civic engagement activities, including support for our local, and regional, partnerships. This is a time for reframing challenges as opportunities, directly contributing to the economic development of our region through key initiatives and expanding our reach and impact."
