New Kirby Laing Professor of New Testament Exegesis appointed

Dr Jamie Davies has been appointed to the post of Kirby Laing Professor of New Testament Exegesis

Dr Davies will be taking up this role in advance of the 2026/27 academic year.

He joins the University of Aberdeen from Trinity College, Bristol, where he has served as Tutor of New Testament for the past decade.

After studies in languages and linguistics at Nottingham and SOAS, Dr Davies turned to Biblical Studies, earning both an MLitt and PhD from the University of St Andrews.

Elected to the Studiorum Novi Testamenti Societas in 2022, he has recently held visiting research appointments at Mansfield College, Oxford and Wycliffe College, Toronto. His research has appeared in The Review of Biblical Literature, The Journal for the Study of the New Testament, The Journal of Theological Interpretation, The Journal for Interdisciplinary Biblical Studies, Currents in Biblical Research and The Scottish Journal of Theology, and he has also authored several books including Paul Among the Apocalypses? An Evaluation of the ‘Apocalyptic Paul’ in the Context of Jewish and Christian Apocalyptic (T&T Clark, 2016), Reading Revelation: A Literary and Theological Commentary (Smyth & Helwys, 2023), The Apocalyptic Paul: Retrospect and Prospect (Cascade, 2022) and most recently Theology on the Run: Apocalyptic Pastoral Theology in Paul’s Thessalonian Letters (Baylor University Press, 2025).
