The Elphinstone Institute was pleased to host SIEF 2025, the 17th bi-annual Congress of the Société Internationale d'Ethnologie et de Folklore (International Society for Ethnology and Folklore). We were told by the events team that it was the biggest conference in the history of the University of Aberdeen, with over 900 ethnologists, folklorists, and anthropologists joining us from around the world (plus 250 online) to discuss the theme of 'unwriting', exploring how traditional culture and Indigenous epistemologies can help guide society during periods of 'polycrisis'.
The Congress was highly interdisciplinary, featuring scholars involved in the humanities, social sciences, medicine, law, computing sciences, and much more. The full programme is available here: SIEF2025 Programme.
Thanks to the many student volunteers from across Schools who supported the event!
