And it's not a "pandemic hangover"

Dr Francisco Pérez-Reche, from the Institute for Complex Systems and Mathematical Biology and the Department of Physics, discussed new research in an interview in November 2024 with That’s TV Scotland.

Listen to the audio of the interview here.

His research reveals that excess deaths in 30- to 54-year-olds have been increasing since 2012 – long before the COVID-19 pandemic. These findings, published in Public Health, suggest that post-pandemic mortality trends may be part of a deeper, long-term issue. This is a striking example of how the physics and mathematics of complex systems can provide critical insights into public health.

His research was also explained in this short audio clip from BBC radio show Good Morning Scotland. There was other coverage in Mail Online and Wales Online.
