Law academic recognised on ENDS Report Power List 2025

A University of Aberdeen Law School academic has been named one of the UK's most impactful environmental professionals.

Dr Thomas Muinzer appears in the 2025 edition of the ENDS Power List, a compendium of the 100 UK environmental professionals who have made the greatest impact in the past two years, as nominated by their colleagues, clients and competitors.

The ENDS Report is the UK's No 1 source of intelligence for environmental professionals, delivering news, analysis and reference across the carbon, environmental and sustainability agenda. It highlights lawyers, campaigners, consultants and others across the public and private sector

Dr Muinzer, one of nine academics on the list, is currently a Reader in Energy Transition Law, and formerly co-directed the Centre for Energy Law, which fosters research excellence in the fields of energy and environmental law. He is also the Law School’s Aberdeen 2040 sustainability lead.

His research focuses on the Low Carbon Transition, with particular reference to climate law and governance and issues around decarbonisation of the energy sector.

Author of the first monograph on the world’s first example of national framework climate legislation, the UK’s pioneering Climate Change Act, Thomas also has subsidiary and intersecting interests in the sphere of constitutional law, human rights protections and the safe and responsible governance of energy and the environment.

“I am delighted to be included on this list, alongside many people working in the environmental space that I greatly admire," he said.

"A lot of positive transformative work has taken place over the last two years and we need to keep this going into the next two as we all continue working to improve and protect our environment.”
