Dear colleagues,
There will be a major planned power outage over the weekend of January 11th and 12th 2025 between 7am and 7pm both days on the King’s College campus to allow essential servicing and maintenance to be carried out on high voltage transformers and switchgear.
The electrical shutdown affects King’s College campus University buildings and flats on Elphinstone Road.
- On Saturday 11 January and Sunday 12 January the Sir Duncan Rice Library will be closed.
In addition, at various points across the weekend there will be impact will be on:
- The Zoology Building, the greenhouse and plant houses next to the Cruickshank Building, the MacRobert Building, 23 St Machar Drive, the Student Union Building, the Sir Duncan Rice Library, St Mary’s, Meston and Fraser Noble Buildings. Properties on Elphinstone Road will also be affected.
Additional Information:
- Power to the buildings affected will be fully restored by 7pm both evenings after the completion of the required works.
- There will be no cleaning services in the buildings affected from 6am on Saturday 11 January until 10pm on Sunday 12 January
- Estates and Facilities staff will be carrying out building inspections to ensure electrical services have been restored
- Estates are working with key staff to provide temporary power to critical experiments and storage of laboratory specimens
- Colleagues within Estates & Facilities will engage and liaise with commercial tenants and trading partners on the High Street
- The Security team will remain on site as normal
Reminders of the planned outage will also be cascaded via Schools and Directorates.
