Jeannie!

Jeannie!

Sunday 12 November 2000, 7.30 p.m.

The Lemon Tree, Aberdeen

Date: 30 October 2000

Jeannie Robertson MBE (1908-1978), of the travelling folk, was a traditional singer of unique ability. Her songs and her singing have had a profound influence over the folksong revival in Scotland and beyond from the 1950s to the present day. This year the City of Aberdeen acknowledges her extraordinary talent and her contribution to the cultural tradition of North-East Scotland with the placing of a plaque at 90 Hilton Street, her former home.

To celebrate this honour, the University of Aberdeen’s Elphinstone Institute, in conjunction with the Lemon Tree, is organising an evening celebration of her life and her songs.

The concert, introduced by Arthur Watson, will feature members of her family who maintain the tradition, Stanley Robertson, Nichole Robertson, and the fiddler Carmen Higgins, as well as a host of other well-known singers, instrumentalists, friends and admirers, who have been influenced by her. These include Ray Fisher, Andy Hunter, Danny Couper, Janice Clark, Tom Spiers, Peter Shepheard, and Bill and Thomas Fraser.

It will be a very special night for a very special person. Tickets for the evening cost £7.50 (concessions £5.00) and bookings can be made by contacting 642230.
