The University of Aberdeen will host a conference for headteachers in the North of Scotland on September 28 and 29 at the King's College Conference Centre.
The aim of Education and Opportunity in a Modern Scotland is to facilitate headteachers in the North of Scotland to meet and share thoughts and aspirations for the development of education in this region. The conference will be officially opened by Nicol Stephen, Deputy Minister for Lifelong Learning and focus on three main areas:
? how technology will impact upon teaching in the near future
? promoting lifelong learning to pupils
? the demands of employers on the workforce and what teachers need to do to prepare pupils for entering a business environment
The Principal of the University of Aberdeen, Professor C Duncan Rice, said: “We are delighted to host this event. The University of Aberdeen supports the aims of this conference, and is working with headteachers to increase the links between secondary and higher education.”
The Principal will give a welcome address to the audience. Speakers will include Nigel Paine of the Technology Colleges Trust, Frank Coffield of the University of Newcastle upon Tyne and Bruce Armitage from Scottish Enterprise Grampian.
The conference has been co-ordinated by Brian Wood, Headteacher at Hazlehead Academy, Douglas Marr, Headteacher at Banchory Academy and representatives from the University and Northern College of Education. Speakers include Nigel Paine, from the Technology Colleges Trust, Frank Coffield, from the University of Newcastle upon Tyne, and Ed Gillespie from Scottish Enterprise Grampian.
