The University of Aberdeen has appointed a new Director of Finance. Irene Bews, former Deputy Director of Finance and currently Acting Director took up her new post on October 1.
Miss Bews, who lives in Banchory, has worked for the University since 1997. She was previously employed by Shell Information Services in the Netherlands, where she was a financial controller, and before that for Shell UK Exploration and Production in Aberdeen for 10 years, starting as a Trainee Accountant in 1984.
A graduate of The Robert Gordon University, Miss Bews is also an Associate of the Institute of Chartered Management Accountants. She is an active member and past President of Banchory Lions Club, a charitable organisation aimed at helping the local community. A long-serving member of the Girl Guide Movement, she has previously been involved with running units for 16 years, both in Scotland and the Netherlands as well as holding County and Scottish appointments in the movement.
Miss Bews replaces former Finance Director Mike Ord, who took early retirement last June.
