Chancellor of the University of Aberdeen appointed as Chairman of the Board of National Museums of S

Lord Wilson of Tillyorn, Chancellor of the University of Aberdeen, has this week been appointed Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the National Museums of Scotland.

Lord Wilson has been a Trustee on the Board of the National Museums of Scotland since 1999 and will succeed Sir Robert Smith as Chairman. Announcing the four year appointment earlier this week, Mike Watson, Minister for Tourism, Culture and Sport, said: “I am confident that David Wilson’s past experience on the Board and his interest and enthusiasm for the work of the National Museums, allied with his extensive business experience, will greatly benefit the future of Scotland’s National Museums.”

Professor C Duncan Rice, Principal of the University of Aberdeen, welcomed the appointment and said: “I would like to send the warmest of congratulations to Lord Wilson on his appointment as Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the National Museums of Scotland.”

Commenting on his appointment, Lord Wilson, said: “I am thrilled and honoured to be appointed Chairman in succession to Sir Robert who has done an outstanding job, not least in seeing to fruition the opening of the Museum of Scotland. The National Museums of Scotland perform a great role in education, scholarship and public enjoment. I look forward to doing my best to help all involved continue to build on the great success of past years.”

Lord Wilson of Tillyorn KT GCMG FRSE PhD was appointed Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the National Museums of Scotland on Monday 18 February. His appointment will be for four years until December 31, 2005.

Lord Wilson, the former governor of Hong Kong, was chairman of Scottish and Southern Energy, previously Scottish Hydro Electric until November 2000 and, in addition to his life peerage was last year installed as a Knight of the Order of the Thistle at a ceremony in Edinburgh. He is Master Elect of Peterhouse, Cambridge.
