50 days to cook up an A+ Open Day

Clarissa Dickson Wright, Rector, University of Aberdeen, launches the 50-day count down to the University's Open Day

The countdown begins - University Rector, Clarissa Dickson Wright has helped set the clock ticking to one of the University of Aberdeen's biggest events, the Open Day on August 26. Tomorrow (July 8) marks 50 days to the event, which is set to attract around 4,000 visitors.

The Open Day on Tuesday, August 26, 2003, will showcase the University to those interested in coming to study in September 2004, and late applicants for 2003 entry will be very welcome to attend.

Departments will be opening their doors with tours, exhibitions and lectures. Visitors will be able to get a real taste of what studying in Aberdeen will be like, with the opportunity to attend presentations by existing students on Student Life, take a tour of the campus, sports facilities and accommodation. To enhance the authentic "student experience", visitors have the opportunity to stay overnight in halls of residence on 25 August after attending a party at the Students' Union. In addition, a range of events will be happening on the day. Amongst the highlights, visitors will be able to give their feedback in the Big Brother-style Diary Room, Northsound will be broadcasting live from campus, there will be an extravaganza of electro-acoustic music and Clarissa will be hosting a Ready, Steady, Cook style cookery programme with two lucky visitors.

Lisa Rattray, Marketing Officer, said: "The University of Aberdeen's Open Day gives us the opportunity to demonstrate just how innovative and exciting we are. The range of events throughout the day will give prospective students the chance to get a real taste of what Aberdeen is like to study in, as well as showing them how much fun can be had as a student."
