Children’s author and freelance journalist Katie Grant, best known for the success of her best-selling debut novel Blood Red Horse, will officially open the Schools Programme at this year’s Word Festival at the University of Aberdeen.
Katie will be appearing in the CALA Homes Storytelling Teepee where she will read passages from her brilliant new novel, set in the Spring of 1193, Green Jasper. The book begins as brothers Will and Gavin return from the Crusades to find that home has changed more than they’d expected.
More than 60 primary school children, from Primary 6/7 from Aberdeen’s Holy Family RC Primary School, will gather in the Teepee for the reading, which begins at 10.00am. This event kicks off a three-day programme of kids events which will see hundreds of children from across the North-east gathering on King’s Lawn for stories and activity sessions by some of Scotland’s best-loved authors.
Word Festival Producer, Elly Rothnie, said: “Katie Grant is a brilliant children’s author and we are delighted that she will be opening our Schools’ Programme this year.
“We’re really excited about how popular this year’s Schools Programme has proved – bookings were sold out within three hours of being announced which is amazing! Our Schools’ Programme will bring a fantastic line-up of events for school pupils from Primary 1 up to Secondary 2 from across Aberdeen and the North-east this week.”
All schools event are free and last one hour. Events take place in the CALA Homes Storytelling Teepee and the Imagination Tent on King’s Lawn, University of Aberdeen.
