PhD Researcher Delivers talk at the University of Duisburg Event and invited to present at The Aurora Lecture Series: The Foreigner in the European Socio-legal Culture: The role of higher education in cultural socio-legal processes of inclusion and the fight against social inequality
Earlier this year, Shailini Vinod was selected to participate in the Spring School "Openness, Tolerance, and Sense of Community: Narratives and Realities of Contemporary Societies" at the Landschaftspark Nord, Duisburg. This program was part of the Mercator Research Training Group "Openness, Tolerance and Sense of Community" at the University of Duisburg Essen, Germany. Titled “Literary Representation, Media Portrayals & Societal Hierarchies” she delivered a paper drawn from her interdisciplinary Ph.D. project which was earlier this year awarded the AHRC/SGSAH funding. Her Ph.D. project, “That Shade of Brown”: A creative socio-literary exploration of the evolving concept of ‘Britishness’ and the mutual impact of migrant representations in literature and sociological research, was delivered in the panel Sense of Community in Transnational Societies. Following the success and positive feedback her presentation received at the Duisburg Essen event, she has been invited to deliver a talk in November this year at a lecture series by Aurora: “The Foreigner in the European Socio-legal Culture: The role of higher education in cultural socio-legal processes of inclusion and the fight against social inequality” https://www.aurora.unina.it/foreigner_eu-socio-legal-culture/. At the recent SGSAH core training residential at Millport, Isle Of Cumbrae, Shailini was awarded the second prize in the SGSAH Millport Photo Competition.
