Congratulations to our Graduating Cohorts!

We are immensely proud of our graduating cohorts from our DipHE Dental Technology and BDS Dentistry programmes.

The Covid-19 pandemic disrupted dental education enormously and it is a credit to our students that they managed to remain focused on their studies despite the many difficulties facing them both professionally and personally.  The Institute’s staff and students have certainly developed and demonstrated their resilience, tenacity and flexibility to meet the challenges of the past 21 months.  The BDS Dentistry and DipHE in Dental Technology programmes were extended for final year students until the end of this year and we are thrilled that our students have been able to achieve their goals, graduate, and will now go forward with their qualifications in hand.   Not only are our DipHE Dental Technology students celebrating their success, they are also the first students to graduate from the programme since it started at the Institute of Dentistry in 2018.

Plans for an in-person celebration were moved online but that did not dampen spirits as we heard each student’s name read out with their award.  Copious amounts of clapping, cheering and tears of joy almost brought down the internet!  It was wonderful to see so many friends and families join the online event and their many smiling faces.  We were also delighted to welcome back our former Director of Dentistry, Emeritus Professor Richard Ibbetson, who gave a thought provoking address where he noted his delight for our graduating students who, at the beginning of their careers, have so much ahead of them.  We were also grateful to be joined by the Head of the School of Medicine, Medical Sciences and Nutrition, Professor Bhattacharya, and Professor Rona Patey, Director of the Institute of Education in Healthcare and Medical Sciences.

Very well done to everyone!
