Dr Eddy Wifa gave a guest lecture at the University of Eduardo Mondlane, Maputo, Mozambique

On Tuesday 23rd November 2021, Dr Eddy Wifa gave a guest lecture to Oil and Gas Economics Postgraduate Students of the University of Eduardo Mondlane, Maputo, Mozambique. The lecture was on "Offshore Oil and Gas Health, Safety and Environmental Regulation: Lessons for Emerging African Oil and Gas Jurisdictions". The lecture provided a comprehensive analysis of the various regulatory theories that apply to high and major risk industries and how emerging African oil and gas jurisdictions can avoid the many barriers to a robust risk governance regime. This follows a previous guest lecture on the Fundamentals of Oil and Gas Law that was delivered to Postgraduate Law students of the University of West Indies on the 30th of September 2021".

In both presentations, Dr Wifa provided key considerations in the development of oil sector governance regimes that are fit-for-purpose. Such considerations include acknowledging the challenges of the political economy of speed, the benefits of and strategic energy governance planning as well as a deliberate shift towards robustness. These considerations could be applied across both jurisdictions and analogous industries.
