We are very happy to see that despite the numerous challenges we all faces in this academic year, there are many positive news to share. We have asked two of our students what they have been up to:
"As lockdown restrictions begin to ease, I've already been lucky enough to take part in the first in-person rehearsal with the Aberdeen Chamber Orchestra (socially distanced and outside) and plans have begun for our first concert since lockdown began. Due to the pandemic, most University-related performance opportunities have unfortunately been cancelled, so fourth years Zoë Young, Kiera Mitchell, and myself have taken the initiative and started compiling videos of 3rd and 4th year recitals for an online showcase; this will be available to watch online at the end of June. Personally, I'm looking forward to taking advantage of the many composition opportunities which have sprung up recently in the creative community, and I will continue to enjoy the flexibility that online meetings (such as the invaluable and continued support of various Sound Festival events and meetings) have brought to my creative life."— Clara-Jane Maunder (3rd Year BMus)"After an impromptu conversation earlier this year with colleague and friend, I was delighted to write a new organ work as a commission to be performed at the Coventry Cathedral in April this year! Being such an iconic and historic venue it was humbling to write the piece for the incredible Harrison and Harrison organ which was built for the new Cathedral in 1962. The organ specification evolved over several years from the advice of a number of musicians, with Dr Sidney Campbell, Organist of St George’s Chapel Windsor Castle, as the final consultant.
