Careers in the Music Industry - Interview with Tobias Wolf Published in Book

As one of the 14 music experts interviewed for a book about career paths in music by German author Dirk Geest, conductor and composer Tobias Patrick Wolf who is undertaking studies for a doctoral degree in Music at the University of Aberdeen, speaks about his work as a musician. He gives an insight into the pros and cons of his job, of course reflecting on all things musical, but also on self-employment, travelling, opportunities in higher education as well as the barriers and difficulties he came across on his journey.

To turn your passion for music into profession — many music professionals state this as one of their dreams and as one of the reasons for deciding in favour of music as their career path. The music industry is colourful, diverse, multi-faceted, and it offers a wide range of opportunities for work and employment both on stage, in education or in other sectors. In addition to more conventional or traditional music jobs, new job profiles have emerged and make music a fascinating, challenging but also rewarding field of work.

With his book entitled Karrierewege in der Musik — “Career Paths in Music”, author Dirk Geest would like to shed some light on jobs in the world of music. A direct and honest insight from 14 experts in the field, this book helps to avoid misunderstandings and disappointments when choosing an apprenticeship, degree programme or any other professional pathway in music. All experts are active in various areas of the industry, ranging from self-employed musicians to employees of larger institutions such as orchestras or universities.
