We are thrilled to give huge congratulations to all the students who participated in this year's Summer Scholarship Symposium. The Dental Institute had an outstanding participation at this annual event which showcases research projects undertaken by students during the summer months.
As a recipient of the International INSPIRE scholarship, our own Mhairi Mcgowan (BDS5) inaugurated the symposium and gave an excellent oral presentation about her summer project in Italy. Within the ASRS Prize Categories, Chloe Horsfall (BDS3) gave an oral presentation, and Nishu Chhanyal (BDS3) and Izabela Wojslaw (BDS4) presented their posters. Mairi Cameron (BDS4) presented her work in a poster within the “Externally Funded Scholarships” Category.
The Institute’s participation also extended beyond our own building! Academic staff from the institute of Dentistry supervised three medical students over the summer. All were chosen for the Oral Presentation Prize Category; Ramisha Basharat (who won the prize for the Best Oral Presentation), Jie Fei Lau and Suleman Sabir.
We also welcomed back Rory Maciver from Glasgow Dental School, the recipient of the National INSPIRE Scholarship who Dr Abu Eid, Professor Gibson and Dr Frank Ward (IMS) supervised, who presented his project in a poster.
All this would not have been possible without the project supervisors and we thank you all! Showing support to our students is very important and it was really heart-warming to see so many of our colleagues, undergraduate and postgraduate students at the Symposium. We also thank Dr Ekta Gupta for all her efforts in her role as Undergraduate Student Research Coordinator and for her constant support of our students.
We are looking forward to the next batch of projects for 2020.
