Liquid crystal chemist success

Congratulations to Dr Rebecca Walker, current PhD Research Fellow at the University of Aberdeen who was awarded the best oral presentation by a young researcher at the British Liquid Crystal Society annual meeting at the University of Leeds.

Dr Walker’s talk entitled ‘Heliconical Nematic and Smectic Phases Exhibited by Non-Symmetric Liquid Crystal Dimers’, showcased the recently published work from her PhD thesis, completed in February.

Dr Walker explained: “I was delighted to be one of two recipients of the Best Oral Presentation prize. I am grateful for and very much enjoyed the opportunity to present my research, and am very happy that it was well received by the audience.

“I look forward to presenting the same talk at the upcoming European Conference of Liquid Crystals in Wroclaw, Poland in July.”

The talk was attended by Dr Walker’s PhD supervisor, Professor Corrie Imrie and his PhD supervisor Professor Geoffrey Luckhurst, with Dr Walker commenting that she was "delighted" that three generations of liquid crystal chemists could attend.

Dr Walker’s work has also been featured in the Royal Society of Chemistry Journal - Soft Matter and Nature Communications.
