Local MP gives insight into life after graduation at careers event

Kirsty Blackman, MP for Aberdeen North, was among a panel of speakers invited to share her experience of life after graduation at a careers event at the University last week.

The event, Imagining your future differently aimed to encourage students to explore the wide range of career options available to them after graduation.

Kirsty spoke about her path into politics, and the work she does to ensure the representation of her constituents in Westminster.

Also addressing the event was Rebecca Barksby, a BSc Zoology graduate, who spoke to students about her role as a sub-editor with The Lancet, and how the skills gained from her degree enabled her to excel in her career.

Beth Ingram, operational occupational health and safety advisor at Repsols Global Energy, discussed the importance of synergy between biological sciences and the energy sector.

Students who attended the event also heard from Sam McKinstrie, a Placement Manager at RGU; Frances Vaughan, Researcher, Nutritionist and Broadcaster at the BBC; Kirsty Nutt, Communications manager at RSPB, and Sharon Robb, HR manager in the business team at Aberdeen City Council.

This event was organised by the School of Biological Sciences and the Careers Service.
