Second Annual Philosophy Reading Party

The second annual Philosophy Reading Party took place in Ballater, Aberdeenshire, March 23-25. Twenty-three students participated, accompanied by staff members Warwick Brown, Gerry Hough and Federico Luzzi. Students and staff took part in walks to Pressendye and Sgor Buidhe, where high-laying snow was encountered, and in less strenuous walking along the old Deeside Railway Line. Our luck with the weather continued this year: no rain and a very substantial amount of sunshine. Student talks in the evening were delivered by Kenneth Thomson-Duncan (‘Thus Spoke Farage-thustra: Philosophical Education in a ‘Post-Truth World’’) and Stephanie Gordon (‘Bringing Sexy Back (to the Classroom): Eros and the Art of Embodiment’). Gerry Hough ran the Philosophy Quiz while Philosophy Bingo was based on Federico Luzzi’s talk ‘On Quotas’. The Philosophy Reading Party will be back next year (March 22-24, 2019) and will be open to all Aberdeen undergraduate students studying a single- or joint-Honours Philosophy degree and to all postgraduate Philosophy students.
