Report highlights earning potential for Aberdeen graduates

Engineering, teaching and law graduates from the University of Aberdeen can expect to earn significantly more than the sector average for their profession, according to UK Government figures.

Statistics from the Department for Education show that engineering and technology graduates can expect to earn £17,679 more than the sector average five years after graduation, bringing their earnings to £49,000.

Law graduates can expect to earn £5,923 above average, while the figure for education graduates is £5,359.

The figures are a snapshot from the Longitudinal Education Outcomes (LEO) data from the Department for Education which was published today (Tuesday, June 13).

Other highlights from the report include five disciplines in which the University is in the top ten in the UK for graduate earnings after a year’s employment, with Medicine and Dentistry 1st, Education 2nd, Engineering and technology 4th, Physical Sciences 9th, and Law 10th.

Commenting on the report, University of Aberdeen Principal Sir Ian Diamond said: “These statistics highlight the significant earning potential that our graduates can enjoy, while demonstrating the attractiveness of our programmes to potential employers.

“Engineering and teaching are two areas where we are making a direct contribution to supporting local need in the north-east of Scotland, where graduate teachers and engineers continue to be in high demand.

“Overall these statistics paint a positive picture of employment prospects and earning potential for our students.  With our summer graduations taking place next week, these figures are good news for our new graduates as they prepare to embark on the next stage of their careers.”
