Aberdeen academic shortlisted for Energy award

A research fellow from the University of Aberdeen’s School of Biological Sciences has been shortlisted for a prestigious energy award.

Dr Benjamin Williamson has been nominated in the Engineer category of the Young Professionals Green Energy Awards, which are organised by Scottish Renewables.

The Young Professionals Green Energy Awards recognises those who have achieved beyond all expectations, those who are pioneering new ideas and have the drive and ambition to evolve the renewable energy industry for the better

The Engineer Award recognises outstanding design, solution or other engineering achievement by an individual.

Dr Williamson earned his nomination by developing innovative designs and delivering novel engineering solutions for environmental monitoring around tidal turbines.

As well as being shortlisted for the awards, Benjamin has published these techniques in the IEEE Journal of Oceanic Engineering and was awarded “Best Presentation” at the Marine Energy Technology Symposium, Washington DC, April 2016.

He said: “I am absolutely delighted to have been shortlisted for this award.

“Being part of a Knowledge Transfer Partnership between MeyGen Ltd and the University of Aberdeen has enabled me to work on this project, which has been a real team effort.”
