The 7th Nordic Research Network Conference will be held in King's College, Aberdeen on 24-25 August 2017. Following the increased interest in regional aspects of Nordic life in recent years, the conference theme will address 'The North as Home'.
Hosted by the Centre for Scandinavian Studies and the Department of Archaeology at the University of Aberdeen. This two-day event will bring together postgraduate students and early career researchers currently working on research topics relating to the Nordic region. We welcome proposals for papers which confront this theme from the following broad topical strands:
- Heritage, Identity, and Reappropriation
- Periphery and Centre
- Media, Language, and Communication
- Networks and Contacts
- Spiritual and Physical Aspects of Home
- Other considerations of ‘The North as Home’
Participation is open to all, and the 2017 NRN committee seeks to encourage Nordic research in all areas of the Humanities and Social Sciences. As such, the conference will also host four keynote addresses by prominent scholars working across the Humanities and Social Sciences investigating pressing questions in Nordic research.
If you would like to give a paper (20 mins) at this conference, or to present your research in an alternative form, such as a poster or a roundtable, please send a title, an abstract (200 words) in English with a short biographical note, including your institutional affiliation (50 words), to nordicresearch2017@gmail.com by 3 February 2017. All submissions will be reviewed and the organising committee reserves the right to select papers according to the quality of abstracts and the conference’s requirements.
