This is a 6 week introductory language course suitable for students with no or very little knowledge of Spanish.
This course provides an intensive introduction to the Spanish language for students with little or no previous knowledge of Spanish. It concentrates on the four basic language skills: reading, writing, speaking, listening comprehension. Students attends 3 grammar seminars per week and attend a further tutorial focusing on spoken Spanish. Students are also required to pursue private study and to submit regular written work
As far as possible, the course content will be tailored to meet the specific linguistic demands of medical students e.g. doctor-patient interactions; describing parts of the body etc.
Students with Higher or A Level or native speakers are not eligible to take this course.
Students usually have to complete 2 written assessments during the course and sit a mock in-class test. In addition to this students need to complete a final written assessment in lieu of the final exam.
Students will also receive a continuously assessed in-class mark in oral classes
What will the timetable be like?
The courses will involve three closely integrated classes per week to develop speaking, writing and listening skills, and a further hour to assist students towards the rapid development of communicative fluency.
Students usually have:
3 one-hour Grammar tutorials per week
One further oral tutorial per week.
Students are expected to spend about 5 hours of private study in addition to this
What books will I require for this course?
Students in the beginners and post-beginners courses no longer need to purchase a book since a course booklet and handouts will posted on MyAberdeen.
Note: Beginners course is based on the textbook: Tu Diras, fourth edition, Heinle.
