University Collections require part-time, temporary Student Museum Assistants to welcome visitors to the Zoology Museum over the school spring and summer holidays, and to ensure the safety and security of visitors and collections.

Job Description

The posts will be based in the Zoology Museum, Zoology building, Tillydrone Avenue.

Experience of effectively welcoming and assisting the public is essential. The candidate will be expected to provide a high standard of customer care, work as part of a team and be responsive to visitors.

The candidate will be working as sole gallery invigilator on shift, contacting managers or Security when required, so must be capable of working independently.

An interest in Zoology and the natural sciences and in the work of museums is essential. Prior experience of working or volunteering with children and families is desirable.

The role is only open to current University of Aberdeen students at the time of starting the contract.

This is a part-time, temporary role and cannot be extended beyond the dates advertised. Please apply if you are available to work over the following dates, which cover the Aberdeen City School spring and summer holidays for 2026:

Thu 27 March – Mon 10 April 2026

& Mon 5 May – Tue 5 May 2026

& Fri 3 July - Fri 14 August 2026

The role is 0.44 FTE (16.25 hours/week).

There are two posts being recruited: one to cover morning shifts Mon-Fri 09:50 – 13:05 hrs, and one to cover afternoon shifts Mon-Fri 12:50 – 16:05 hrs.
