About Geography

Geography studies the Earth's surface, focusing on the relationships between people and their environment. It is key to understanding and resolving many pressing problems faced by society, such as climate change, poverty, energy transition, and environmental conservation.

Our teaching combines elements of the natural and social sciences and humanities, and spans the breadth of human & physical geography for the first 2 years of study before specialising in the honours years (3rd and 4th year).

Why Study Geography at Aberdeen?

  • We are 1st in Scotland for Overall Student Satisfaction in Earth Sciences (NSS 2025)
  • Tailor your degree with the choice of a BSc or MA in Geography. You can focus on a single honours degree or pursue a joint honours degree combining Geography with another subject
  • Field classes are a key part of our teaching and our location means we’re close to some of the UK’s most geographically varied landscapes. All of our programmes offer opportunities for local, national and international field trips
