There are several advisory boards in the University; some are School or course specific and others support the Careers Service and the Development Trust.
Our advisory boards are made up of internal and external representatives and enable us to ensure that our teaching is current and relevant to the working world.
Upon graduation you automatically become a member of the General Council. The Council was set up under an Act of Parliament to provide graduates with a channel to share their views on the regulation and wellbeing of their University. You can visit the General Council webpage here.
General Councils also play a role in the governance of the four ancient Scottish universities. If you would like an active role you can stand as one of the 21 elected members of the General Council Business Committee. The Committee has a duty of dialogue with the University Court on all matters relating to the wellbeing of the University. You can find out more about the General Council Business Committee here.
The Board of Directors of the University of Aberdeen Foundation consists of eight alumni who are all high-profile members of the American community and who freely give their time and expertise in support of the University of Aberdeen Foundation's mission.

Aberdeen University is a unique institution - a broad-based and long-lived community of learning in a fairly remote location.
I enjoyed my time as a student in this special place, I met many good people and I learnt a great deal.
I believe it's important to help new generations of students to enjoy the same chances which is one reason I do voluntary work in the University.
Volunteering also lets me meet others who have enjoyed all that the University of Aberdeen has to offer. It's good to work with them to help develop all that is best in the University
