PPIE for researchers using data science, routine data or large datasets

Webinar Summary

Are you an RSS Advisor or an applicant for NIHR funding? Do you want to gain confidence in involving patients and the public in research using data science, routine data or large datasets? This webinar will cover why involvement matters in data-driven research and how to make your research more accessible to patient and public contributors.  It will cover practical ways to include patient and public perspectives in study design, governance, interpretation, and dissemination, and highlight common challenges such as trust, transparency, and how to explain complex data uses in plain language.

Find out where to start, who are the key people to involve and how the Research Support Service can help you to develop your proposal.  Embedding meaningful PPIE throughout your research will lead to research questions that truly reflect patient priorities, more public trust and, ultimately, increase the impact for your research.

The webinar is organised jointly by the RSS Hubs Newcastle and York and Partners, and the Health Data Science (HDS) strand of the NIHR Applied Health and Care Research Methodology Incubator. The latter has the twin goals of increasing understanding of the applied health research potential of routine data and similar large data sources, and the training needs of research methodologists working across the health data science field.
