Cafe Scientifique - Thalidomide and 'the forgotten thalidomide' revisited

Thalidomide notoriously caused severe damage to babies between 1958 and 1962. It is being used again widely, but has tragically caused a new generation of damaged children in Brazil.  What have we learnt from the original disaster?  Can the drug (and others like it) ever be made ‘safe’ but retain clinical benefits?

Our Cafe Scientifique Aberdeen City series takes place monthly in Waterstone's Union Bridge book store in Aberdeen's Union Street, usually around the middle Wednesday of the month. Sessions run from January through to October and are free to attend. No booking is required and places are allocated on the first-come basis
