Microsoft's Gen AI Assistant

Copilot Chat is our University’s official Generative AI tool, available to all students and staff. It's a digital assistant built into Microsoft tools that helps you work, learn, and create more easily.

Copilot is safe for university data, though University of Aberdeen ask that you do not input sensitive personal data into GenAl tools, under any circumstances in accordance with our governance policies.

For students, Copilot can help break down complex topics, summarise readings, organise notes, or draft early ideas for assignments. It won’t replace your own work or thinking, but it can save time when you’re stuck, or need clarity.

For staff, Copilot can streamline everyday tasks: summarising long emails, turning meeting notes into clear action points, drafting messages, creating outlines for documents, or helping build teaching materials.

Copilot doesn’t “think” or have opinions — it simply helps you focus on the important parts of study or teaching, while it handles the heavy lifting in the background.
