| Item Description
|
The Aberdeen Musical Society was formed in 1747/8 to 'meet for their musical entertainment once a week'. The founders were 'the Revd. Professor Pollock and Mr Peter Black; Dr John Gregory and Messrs. James Black, Andrew Tait, Francis Peacock & David Young'. The society originally met for private music-making. The inventory (July 28 1752) includes prices of some of the instruments and music belonging to the Society. 'A flute D'Amore' [a flageolet, recorder, or low flute], 'A Beaurroe [Bureau] organ' [a small moveable organ], and 'Handels 12 Grand Concertos'. 'Felton's Organ Concertos', were no doubt to be performed on the new 'Beaurroe Organ'. |
