A practical course equipping students with the skills to review, integrate, and synthesise diverse public health evidence for real-world decision-making. Students conduct an applied evidence review on a topic of their choice, producing a public health report and an embedded Information, education and communication output (WHO, 2001. Information, education and communication: lessons from the past; perspectives for the future), with feedback through a summative poster presentation.

To inform policy, health care planning, and service development, public health professionals routinely evaluate multiple types of evidence: academic literature, government reports, non-governmental organisation data, surveillance statistics, and others. This course provides a practice-oriented learning experience in conducting an applied evidence review using diverse academic and non-academic literature sources.
During the course, students will identify a Public Health topic, refine a research question, identify appropriate mixed-source evidence, critically evaluate the quality and limitations of available evidence, and synthesise findings for real-world public health use.
Students will communicate their findings through structured outputs designed to demonstrate their ability to synthesise and appraise evidence and translate it into implications for public health policy and practice
Throughout the course, students will work largely independently with support from tutors through workshops and opportunities for discussion and feedback.
