Course Overview

This course introduces students to key concepts in global health and develops skills to critically appraise organisations, actors, debates and data. Teaching material will cover: key definitions and terminology; and key drivers and challenges in the global health field. Students will learn about established and emerging topics, how these intersect with broader social, economic, environmental, and political factors, and how research can make credible contributions in this context.

Course Description

The aim of this course is to introduce students to key concepts in global health. It will cover the key drivers and challenges in global health, as well as key governmental and non-governmental institutions in the field of global health. The overall purpose is to develop the student’s awareness, and self-reflection, on the diverse and dynamic field of global health, and how to make meaningful contributions in this context.

Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:

  1. Evidence an in-depth understanding of key terminology and concepts in global health.
  2. Describe key challenges in global health.
  3. Compare and contrast different approaches to global health.
  4. Critically appraise the role of partnership working in global health.
