This course allows you to design a tailored, focused line of study related to your interests and postgraduate degree programme. Expert, one-on-one supervisory support will guide your project as you develop independent research skills and specialist knowledge, culminating in a concise research essay in your chosen area. You will also have the opportunity to showcase your work and develop professional presentation skills via a poster presentation of your work in progress.

This course allows you to define and explore a focused and concise independent research topic of your choosing.
Students will work with their course and programme coordinator to define a topic area and choose an expert supervisor. Over the course of the term, you will work one-on-one with your supervisor to discuss your ideas and reading, refine your thinking and sharpen your research skills. You will develop professional skills in communicating complex ideas in a variety of media: a poster and accompanying short oral presentation, and a concise research essay. The poster-presentation, for which you will receive training, offers opportunities for peer-to-peer feedback and engagement with other students and projects in development, as well for input from course staff.
