This is an introduction to the current and future methods of dietary assessment. You will gain an understanding of these methods of assessing dietary data, dietary intakes and nutritional composition of food and understand how to apply them in practice. You will also examine current nutritional, health and physical activity guidelines and reflect on how these can impact dietary change.

There are four short sections to work through and each section takes around 10-15 hours of study each week.
In Week 1, you will be introduced to current methods of dietary assessment and how data is derived.
In Week 2, you will gain an understanding of how to evaluate the current methods of dietary assessment and be able to apply your knowledge when using these methods in practice.
In week 3, you are introduced to the electronic databases of food composition that can be used to analyse dietary data, their strengths and limitations. You will also learn about current nutritional and physical activity guidelines and apply your knowledge to effect dietary change in the individual.
In week 4, you are introduced to the exciting future of dietary assessment, and you will be able to reflect on the impact in practice. You will also reflect on inherent errors in dietary assessment and be able to apply your knowledge when using these methods in practice.
There are 4 marked assessments, one at the end of each week, these are automarked in Myaberdeen. You will be also be able to contribute to discussion boards and get feedback from your tutor.
