Course Description

This course is intended for students who have successfully completed and passed FR1032: Qualified French Language 1 For Elective Students (doing Study a Language for 2 years or taking French Language as spare or extra credits. If unsure which course is correct for you, would like to start French this semester (and have significant experience of the language) or you are struggling to select this course on MyCurriculum, please email the course coordinator.

This course will enable elective students to consolidate and extend their knowledge of French, written and spoken, to a CERF level of B1 by the end of the course. It lays equal emphasis on reading, writing, listening and speaking, and in general insists as much on accuracy as on fluency. It presents certain intermediate grammatical structures and covers some techniques of translation. It also offers students opportunities to improve their communication skills through group work and discussion. The course consists of three timetabled weekly hours: one seminar; one language seminar; and one oral class. In addition, students follow a structured programme of private study, including a weekly listening task and step-by-step preparation and practice materials.
