In the early 20th century the flute reached its zenith with the virtuosic flautists from the French School performing and teaching throughout the world, although up until this point the instrument was relegated to orchestral section. The Art of Transcription revives works from the late classical and early romantic period, transcribing them for flute and piano. Repertoire includes Sonatas by Haydn, Schumann and an arrangement of Debussy's Bilitis.
