Symphony Orchestra

The University Symphony Orchestra meets every Monday night during term-time from 6pm to 8.30pm. There are usually two performances a year, one in November and one in March and often the orchestra joins forces with the Choral Society to mount large-scale works.
Recent repertoire includes:
- Prokofiev - Lieutenant Kije, Peter and the Wolf
- Bernstein - Symphonic Dances from West Side Story
- Faure - Pavane
- Shostakovich - Symphony No. 5
(with Choral Society)
- Faure - Requiem
- Poulenc - Gloria
- Orff - Carmina Burana
- Bernstein - Chichester Psalms
Entrance
The orchestra is open to all members of the community; students, staff and people from outside of the University. Entrance to the Orchestra is by audition, held at the start of the Academic year. All members of the Woodwind and Brass sections re-audition every year, however this is not required of string players.
Audition slots are made available in Fresher's week and potential members can sign up at the Music stall at the Fresher's Fair or by coming to the Music Office.
