Join us for an evening’s discussion and presentation from leading researchers in conjunction with complimentary therapies practitioners.
Presented by Dr Alexandra Johnstone, Rowett Institute of Nutrition & Health, University of Aberdeen, and Dr Debra Gimlin - Senior Lecturer in Sociology, University of Aberdeen and Dr Arthur Stewart -a Reader in Robert Gordon Univ ersity’s Institute of Health and Welfare Research.
Myths and reality of obesity and weight loss - Dr Alexandra Johnstone will discuss some of the common claims about weight gain and weight loss and draw upon her experience in working in the scientific area of appetite control at the Rowett Institute for 20 years. Dr Debra Gimlin has conducted research on the differences between British and American cultures particularly on women’s accounts of cosmetic surgery in these two national settings. She has also recently started to explore the representation, in popular media and medical texts, of the ‘risks’ of cosmetic surgery tourism and participants’ efforts to manage those risks.
“Body shape - how it’s changing and why it matters” - Dr Arthur Stewart has extensively researched human body composition and body shape. His presentation will include a demonstration of the latest portable scanning technology
